George Dureau: New Orleans – 50 Photographs (very rare limited signed edition of 100 in slip case) [£695.00]
George Dureau presents a collection of 50 black and white images that will cause you to rethink how you look at the human form. Edward Lucie-Smith in his Introduction to this collection says that we are asked to see these models, some of them deformed, “as our equals, not as objects of pity.” The artist’s own comment is that he is seeking to tell the truth. Dureau’s work here was highly innovative and influenced Mapplethorpe’s approach and style (not the other way around). – – – – – – – – – The book comes in its original slipcase which is in average/good condition with rubbing to the corners and signs of wear, but the book having been protected is in fine to near new condition. It comes from a rare limited edition of 100 and is number 96 – signed by both Dureau and Lucie-Smith. Cover is price clipped as issued.
